A nice treasure to pull out of a drawer!
I have recently dug my Dad’s 1982 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ref 15000 out of a drawer.
What a lovely thing. Not been worn for 25+ years but a quick set and careful wind and it’s running beautifully.
34mm is quite enough and a lovely original classic.
No box or papers, but who cares?!?

What a shame it hasn’t been worn for that long.
Great looker, even after all these years, ware with pride
Great timepiece, glad its getting the wear it deserves......I agree with the sizing, I have a 1965 Tissot Seastar in 34mm which just seems to suit the watch perfectly especially on the bracelet and there's just something about these mid-century watches where the smaller case size just seems to work.
Beautiful watch - really doesn’t get much better than that.
34-36mm is ideal.
I go no larger than a 5 digit rolex these days (long gone are my Planet Oceans and Panerais)

One of my favourite references - I would suggest you consider having it serviced if you are going to regularly wear it - thanks for sharing.

Worth getting it properly serviced and lightly refinished to restore to its former glory, then use it as intended! Regardless of the sentimental value it's far too nice to not be used.
I don`t advocate using it without getting it serviced first, lubrication will be non-existent and that's going to exacerbate wear. I would also get it refinished and looking as it was supposed to look when your dad bought it. These are easy to refinish and really do look much sharper for it.
I would send it to a Rolex accredited indy or someone with extensive Rolex experience such as Bill Rice, he's no longer Rolex accredited but he was for many years.
Thanks. And yes it struggled a little today when moving the date on so will need a full service.
I usually do servicing at Rolex and otherwise have used Russell Talerman (Indy in central london) a few times so may go back to them again.

I have this from 1982 as well. 34mm which wears bigger because of the narrow bezel. I really like the matching champagne coloured date wheel.
When it's all dial, 34mm is plenty.
Lovely piece.
Love it
Desperate to find a birth year watch -1986 but it’s a minefield out there
