I thought that much, it's a lot nicer than the chrono one!!

Well, my opinion?... The Longines BY FAR!! Aren't you tired already of seeing SMs and Rollies in every topic that is opened here?

Re: a discount - 10% to 15% should be achievable in an authorised dealer.

if you shop online through quidco.com you will receive cash back of 14% excluding VAT from Ernest Jones (although both the black and blue Longines are showing as out of stock on the EJ website.) the Brent Cross shopping centre branch in North London has the Longines in stock.

Current versions of the Seamaster will be available pretty much everywhere.

If you are happy not to use an AD, somewhere like Watchfinder.co.uk will source you the Longines for about £600 - maybe less.

Banks Lyon are an AD for both brands and well regarded on here. I got 20% discount on my Hydroconquest without too much pushing.

I've had an auto Hydro Conquest and a quartz Seamaster.

If you want pure value for money go for the Hydro-conquest - you'd struggle to find a better looking watch for the money. Quality is very good but I'd say it was about right for the price point. The SMP does feel better qualilty overall to me though (as it should do) and if you're looking at the auto versions the SMP movement will be a higher grade ETA.

My vote goes to the SMP it's a timeless classic and if you can find a cheap second hand one it's worth the extra cash but both are great watches and you wont go wrong with either.

I will have to pop into my local Ernest Jones, see if they have them in stock and what deal they can do now they are out of stock online!

With value for money in mind and that fact that I fancy a new auto version, the Hydro Conquest will probably win

The only thing that niggles me is, the lug width is 21mm, it's neither here nor there and a right pain when you fancy a change
Cheers,

Michael.

The good point about that is it makes them Nato-proof. They do have a rubber bracelet option but I think the bracelet is an integral part of the look and design of the watch.

Used to have a Hydroconquest Auto Non Chrono... With the blue face and bezel...

Make no mistake, its every bit a match for a Seamaster...I also own a SM Bond (Co-Ax) and if I'm honest, the price difference to the Omega just isn't justifyable.... If I hadn't got my Bond at the price I did, I would never have sold the Longines...
