Same, didn’t read the rules properly so was stuck looking for something that didn’t exist.

I like this game because depending on your word choice what's hard for you might be easy for someone else.
I got today in 3 which felt great as I only has one letter, the vowel, in the right place and the other letter could have gone anywhere. I chose the word more for the letters it would eliminate rather than because I thought it was right.
I needed all six again, 50/50 guess on the last letter and went for the wrong one and scored six instead of five.

Is the really what happened? I have felt that it has become somewhat harder since NY Times acquisition, but thought it was just a figment of my suspicious imagination.
NYT hasn't changed any of the upcoming words, other than that they deleted a handful which weren't meeting US requirements (spelling, occurrence and correctness).
So the answer is: no.

There are 2 possible reasons why a wordle could be hard: rarely used words and multiple possibilities with a one letter difference.
A lot depends on your starting word(s) of course...
